Hoosiers Deserve Better Than PFAS
PFAS are in our homes, in our air and water, and in our food. They are used so widely in goods we use regularly, like cosmetics, food packaging, guitar strings, and contacts that we all have PFAS in our blood, threatening our children not yet born.
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), known as “forever chemicals” due to their permanence in our bodies and environment, pose serious health risks like cancer, thyroid and liver disease, damage to immune systems, reproductive issues, and developmental issues. They have been found in the blood of humans and animals globally, telling us we have all been exposed.
The risks of similarly harmful, but less persistent chemicals have been recognized and they are now used with caution and oversight – like lead and asbestos. We have established guidelines and procedures for dealing with dangerous substances. Indiana has recognized the risks of PFAS to our firefighters and military members on the job, but not at home as civilians.
Sign your name to tell your legislator to implement similar preventative measures for PFAS, protect all Hoosiers’ health, and hold PFAS producers accountable so that future generations won’t ask why we failed to act when we had the chance.
