ISSUES WE EXPECT TO FOLLOW
Water Resource Planning: Quality and Quantity
Water is a hot topic again this year, and your lawmakers are working to improve Indiana’s water quality and become better stewards of this finite resource. Data improvement, regional planning, and a centralized authority responsible for overseeing it all are a few highlights of what is to come. Doing this work now will improve our health and environment and ensure we have reliable water availability well into the future.
Clean Energy: Energy Demand Concerns
We expect to see a few pieces of legislation this year that addresses Indiana’s energy demand, and we want to make sure clean energy and affordability is a priority. Currently, Indiana, along with many other states, is expected to grow in energy demand. While residential energy use has continued to drop thanks to energy efficiency improvements, large manufacturers such as data centers are plugging into the grid causing uncertainty on how to meet this new energy demand. This is an opportunity to grow renewable energy in our state, the cheapest, cleanest, and quickest energy our energy utilities can deploy. We will need your help this legislative session to ensure all Hoosiers benefit from the clean energy economy.
PFAS: Polluter Accountability
So far, we have only seen one piece of legislation regarding PFAS, and we are happy to see the language. We are expecting a few bills regarding this issue this year and will monitor them closely. This issue is of growing importance as we learn more about these chemicals and taking action now is crucial to protect our families and our environment from risks associated with PFAS exposure. As more people are made aware of this issue, we have an opportunity to protect ourselves by holding polluters accountable and ensuring taxpayers don’t end up paying for negligence with our health or our wallets.
